Today, June 14th is Flag Day (by presidential proclamation in 1916, by Act of Congress as a national holiday in 1949, and in one state, Pennsylvania, as a state holiday in 1937) Flag day commemorates the adoption of a flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1977. It is a good time to catch up on flag flying etiquette before peak flag flying season hits us on the July 4th weekend.
I also like the Naval flag with the snake and "don't tread on me". It must have lost the vote in committee to become the flag.Wikipedia has tons of information on the Flag of the United States. You can even learn about vexillology, the study of flags.
