My wife (Little Miss Muffet) took this picture of a very large spider. Unfortunately the crappy Treo camera phone doesn't do closeups very well. On the other hand the fuzziness of the image lessens the immediacy of the image for any arachnophobes viewing it.
That is a rather large spider. Anybody know what kind it is?

ReplyDeleteI think it's the much feared Church Collection Spider. It grabs coins and spirits them away with its specialised long, coin grabbing legs. You can see one of its prey in the photo.
ReplyDeleteI hear that pastors are breeding up types of these spiders to go after larger paper denominations and even checks.
ReplyDeleteWell, if it was a UK spider I'd probably be of some use to you. But sadly my meagre knowledge is even meagre-er once it crosses the Atlantic. But fwiw I'd say it looks like a wolf spider of some sort, rather than a web-dweller. Was it running about in a lively manner?
